A single hand, spreading its fingers as wide as possible, points to the effort to reach beyond limitations. Placed horizontally, the gesture brings to mind a pianist’s hand grasping for a distant key.  Placed vertically, the hand transforms into a tree extending its limbs into the light. In both versions, what is absent plays as important a role as what is present.
